Cicero is a town in Northern Onondaga County, New York, named in honor of the Roman statesman Cicero. It’s north of Syracuse in the central part of the state and has lots to offer prospective homebuyers. Formed in 1790 as part of a township in the Military Tract, the Town of Cicero was joined with the Town of Lysander when Onondaga County formed in 1794. The two towns separated in 1807 and Cicero grew into an area full of friendly people and a laid-back atmosphere.
Cicero real estate includes a growing number of housing developments with vibrant communities filled with spacious lakefront homes, quaint cottages, compact condos and expansive luxury plots. Sprinkled around these communities are ample opportunities for families to fill their leisure time and stay active with nine parks and three recreation centers. This includes Oneida Lake, one of the largest bodies of water in New York State, on its northern border, and the Chittenango Creek along its eastern border. The south part of town contains the extensive Cicero Swamp protected wetlands with four thousand acres of mainly wetlands, forests and farms.
The annual Cicero Community Festival features a parade, car show, live music, arts and crafts fair, fireworks, kids’ fun zone and much more. Cicero also includes numerous communities within its boundaries, such as Brewerton and Bridgeport. These hamlets offer their own fun-filled activities like the Canal Side Concerts held at Riverfront Park in Brewerton on Thursdays throughout the summer and the Fall Festival in Bridgeport held annually in October.
